Naruto Uzumaki (うずまきナルト,Uzumaki Naruto) is a shinobi ofKonohagakure. He became thejinchūriki of the Nine-Tails on the day of his birth — a fate that caused him to be ostracised by most of Konoha throughout his childhood. After joining Team Kakashi, Naruto worked hard to gain the village's acknowledgement all the while chasing his dream to becomeHokage. In the following years, through many hardships and ordeals, he became a capable ninja regarded as a hero both by the villagers, and soon after, the rest of the world. He soon proved to be one of the main factors in winning the Fourth Shinobi World War, leading him to achieve his dream and become the village'sSeventh Hokage (七代目火影,Nanadaime Hokage, Literally meaning: Seventh Fire Shadow).

Naruto is the son of the Fourth Hokage: Minato Namikaze, and the second jinchūriki of the Nine-Tails:Kushina Uzumaki. He was named after the protagonist of Jiraiya'sfirst book, thereby making theSannin his godfather.^[14] Fearing that the stress of giving birth would break the seal containing the Nine-Tails, the Third Hokagearranged Naruto's parents to go to a top-secret location on the outskirts of the village guarded byAnbu, with the midwives Biwakoand Taji helping Kushina in delivering her child while Minato would keep the seal in place. Shortly after Naruto was born on the night of October 10th, amasked man, who managed to track down their location, killed the midwives and Anbu, and took the newborn hostage as a means of separating Minato from Kushina, in order to release the Nine-Tails for his own ends.^[15]
